Day 7 - Proverbs 7 : “Direction, Not Intention Determines Destination”

“All at once he followed her like an ox going to the slaughter, like a deer stepping into a noose till an arrow pierces his liver, like a bird darting into a snare, little knowing it will cost him his life.”

By the time the young man realised he was in the wrong place, with the wrong person and doing the wrong thing, it was too late! No doubt sin had disguised itself to appear sweet, pleasurable and risk-free; however, the outcome was sealed when the young man chose the wrong path. [8-9, “He was going down the street near her corner, walking along in the direction of her house at twilight, as the day was fading, as the dark of night set in.]

The path you choose determines where you will end up, or as Andy Stanley puts it: “It’s your direction, not intention that determines your destination”. It does not matter where your intended journey’s end is; it is the path you have embarked on that eventually determines where you will end up. This truth applies to every arena of life: your finances, parenting, relationships, career, and so on.

It is my intention to be the most loving dad to my children; however, when I go down the path of prejudgement, it usually leads to explosive exchanges, and I end up hurting them instead. Think about the path you are on today and ask if it leads to your desired destination.

This is what the LORD says: "Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls." Jeremiah 6:16a
