Wine is a mocker.
It deceives by its fragrance, intoxicates by its strength and renders the intoxicated ridiculous.
So do some of the things we pursue, for that matter, that bring us pleasure and a moment of gratification. As the indulgence continues, one becomes more dependant on it. And eventually what you were once the master of, has now mastered you.
On hindsight, doesn’t it seem so silly? What have these ‘pursuits of happiness’ brought us that has lasted till today? An empty wallet? A gaping hole in our hearts? An empty home?
The way that professionals are able to tell originals from counterfeits is not by ‘trying’ out all the different counterfeits there are but to spend all their energy and efforts studying the original so they will know for certain whatever else that appears similar is a worthless fake!
So let’s find our pleasure in Him instead. The One who brings all life and fullness of joy, of which every other ‘pleasure’ is a counterfeit of.
