Day 29 - Proverbs 29

Prov 29:25  Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is kept safe.

We fear people. We are afraid of their disapproval. We are afraid that they may not like us or that they may become angry with us. There are so many people who have no fear of God but who have a great fear of man. They break the laws of God without any fear of consequences but they are so afraid to lose favour with man.

The fear of man brings a snare. It traps us. We becomes slaves, prisoners to the people we fear. Fearing man causes us to lose out on the ‘much more’ life.

Are you living in such a fear? Is there a superior you are so afraid to offend that you will tell a lie for him? You will collaborate with him to sin against the Lord? Are you so afraid of losing your friends that you dare not make a stand for Christ before them? Are you breaking the laws of God just to find favour with man? It’s a snare.

‘But whoever trusts in the Lord is kept safe.’

When you truly trust in the Lord, you don’t fear man. Your cry will be “Whom shall I fear?” for you will feel that you have the strength of the Lord to back you up. Trusting in the Lord makes you one with God and that makes you strong. That strength breeds a certain courage and will enable you to ask, “If God is for us, who can be against us?” That courage will lead you to do that which is right in God’s eyes even if it is not approved by man.

That’s liberating. You find yourself living out your life for Christ and none other. That’s the ‘much more’ life. Seize it!
